Our goal is simple: to inspire and excite the next generation of scientists - giving students a real look at what a career in biomedical research can be, and the connections to help them get there.

Introduction to proteomics: biology, medicine, and beyond

Students will attend introductory lectures designed to introduce the field of proteomics from the ground up - no prior knowledge required. These sessions explore what proteins are, how scientists study them, and why they matter across biology, medicine, and other fields of science. It's a chance for students to engage with the material directly, ask questions, and walk away with a genuine understanding of what proteomics research is and why it matters.

Career panel with early career researchers

Students hear directly from scientists who are various stages of their careers - from undergraduate, graduate, postdocs, to junior faculty - who can speak honestly about the path they took, the challenges they faced, and what drew them to research proteomics. This panel is designed to feel like a real conversation, not a lecture, giving students the chance to ask the questions they actually want answered: How did you know science was for you? What does a typical week look like? How do I get started?

Lightning talks from scientists

A series of short, accessible talks gives students a broad view of the kinds of questions scientists are asking today. Speakers range from graduate students presenting their first research projects to senior investigators with decades of experience. Each lighting talk is designed to be engaging and approachable - no prior background required. Students get a sense not only of the science itself, but of how diverse and wide-ranging a career in biomedical research can be.

Hands-on interaction at a poster session

One of the highlights of the day is the chance to explore a poster session alongside conference attendees. Students move freely through the space, stopping to chat one-on-one with scientists who are sharing their work. It’s an immersive, low-pressure environment where curiosity is encouraged and no question is too basic.

Mentorship connections and professional development

Beyond the day itself, we work to connect students with science mentors at local universities who can offer ongoing guidance, support, and encouragement as students explore their interests. We also share information about summer internship and research opportunities, helping students understand the concrete steps they can take to get involved in science before and during university. Our aim is for every student to leave not just inspired, but equipped - with real contacts, real resources, and a clearer sense of what their next steps might look like.
